KARACHI, Feb 26: An anti-terrorism court remanded on Tuesday a suspect in police custody in a sectarian killing case.

Police produced suspect Nadeem Abbas Zaidi, said to be affiliated with a banned sectarian outfit, in court and sought his custody. Judge Bashir Ahmed Khoso of the ATC-I remanded the suspect in police custody till March 8.

According to the prosecution, Qari Mohammad Amin, a prayer leader of the Bilal Masjid and an activist of the Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamaat, was gunned down near Korangi Crossing on Feb 23. However, people present there managed to capture a suspect when he was trying to flee after committing the crime, it added.

A case (FIR 46/13) was registered under Sections 302 (premeditated murder), 109 (abetment) and 34 (common intention) of the Pakistan Penal Code read with Section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act, 1997 at the Zaman Town police station.
