Two cops arrested for theft

ISLAMABAD, Jan 31: Two cops working in the Diplomatic Protection Department (DPD), were arrested on Thursday for their alleged involvement in theft, said police officials.

The policemen were retired army veterans inducted in the capital police in 2009, along with 300 others.

the Secretariat SHO, Inspector Qasir Abbas, confirmed that the accused cops stole at least four vehicles, cash, including foreign currency and prize bonds during their deployment in the diplomatic enclave. The two accused also stole a motorbike of a police constable.

Earlier, police constable – Shahid Hussain – also deployed at DPD, alleged that the two cops stole his motorbike.

The constable alleged that on January 21, the two cops approached him and one of them wanted to borrow his motorbike for a personal errand.

The constable used to park his motorbike at the Secretariat Police Station but on January 24 found the bike missing.

The police said that the constable suspected the two cops, who he thought must have made duplicate keys of the motorbike’s ignition and lock, when they had borrowed it from him.

In response of the complaint, the police registered a case on January 25 and later arrested the accused on January 30.
