Asif makes sterling start in Thailand

KARACHI, Jan 29: Pakistan’s IBSF world amateur snooker champion Mohammad Asif made a sterling start in Sangsom Mukdahan Cup Snooker tournament when he hammered local player Bundit Kiewsuthi 4-0 with a century break late on Monday.

Asif was invited by the Billiard Sports Association of Thailand (BSAT) to participate as a wild card entrant in the event being held in the Mukdahan province.

According to the information received here on Tuesday, Asif, who will play his last-16 round match on Jan 31, constructed 122 breaks in third frame while carving out an easy 67-44, 68-66, 128-0, 70-17 victory.

He also made breaks of 39, 22 and 37 during the match.

The BSAT had funded Asif’s trip besides guaranteeing him a purse of 15,000 Thai baht with winner getting 100,000 baht, runner-up 50,000 baht and losing semi-finalist 30,000 baht. —APP
