Pakistani rowers shine in Paoay Regatta

PAOAY (Manila), Jan 26: Pakistani rowing team, living up to their potential, made their presence felt in the first Paoay International Area-Feara Regatta near Manila here by winning the Feara Cup.

More than 100 rowers from clubs belonging to India, Pakistan, Srilanka, Bangladesh, Singapore and the host Philippines participated in this exciting eight-day event.

A total of eleven players including four women from Karachi Boat Club (KBC) participated in the event from Pakistan. In a tremendous show of both skill and stamina, the Pakistani rowers won as many as six medals including one gold and one silver innine events.

In Feara Mens Fours, the Pakistani team comprising Arif Ikram, Benney, Khurram Khawaja and Asghar Ali won the Far East Amateur Association (Feara Cup) for their country. CME Pune club won the Area Trophy.

In another event, the KBC women’s team won a silver medal. Apart from that, the Pakistani rowers won four bronze medals in Feara Mens Pair, Area Mens Four, Area Mens Singles and Area Womens Doubles respectively.—Agencies
