Miss Jinnah joins PML

KARACHI: Mader-i-Millat Miss Fatima Jinnah has signed the Pakistan Muslim League membership form. This was confirmed to Dawn by Mr Zain Noorani, General Secretary of the Karachi Provincial Muslim League.

Miss Jinnah formally became a member on January 7, 1963, the date on which the membership campaign of the Pakistan Muslim League was launched. She was the first person to be approached.

Mr Noorani, who could not be contacted till late last night, said that the Mader-i-Millat had always been a member of the Muslim League and it was well-known that she supported the Pakistan Muslim League.

He added: “It was, therefore, only natural that we should have obtained her blessings and signature on the first form. It was never our intention to make a formal announcement in this regard. However, since a section of the Press has carried the news and to avoid any confusion, I have great pleasure in confirming it.”

Ordinances slammed

DACCA: The non-revivalist as well as Pakistan Muslim League leaders have reacted sharply to the two ordinances relating to EBDO [Elected Bodies Disqualification Order] and the Political Parties Act, promulgated earlier this week.

The leaders of the non-revivalist group, Mr Nurul Amin and Shah Azizur Rehman, are of the opinion that the promulgation of these Ordinances purported to stifle the voice of democracy and deprive a section of the citizens of their inalienable legal rights.Mr Nurul Amin, in a statement released to the Press here last night (Jan 9), termed the ordinances “ill-conceived and inconsistent, while Shah Azizur Rahman remarked that they betrayed the weakness, rather than the strength, of the Government.” — Agencies
