UN calls for restraint along LoC

UNITED NATIONS, Jan 9: The United Nations on Wednesday urged India and Pakistan to “respect ceasefire and de-escalate tensions” through dialogue following the recent breakout of hostilities along the Line of Control in Kashmir.

“The United Nations Mission in India and Pakistan (UNMOGIP) is aware of the alleged incidents,” a spokesman for UN Secretary General said in a press statement, noting that “Pakistan Army and Indian Army are in contact via hotline”.

“The UNMOGIP will conduct investigation as soon as possible in accordance with its mandate,” the statement said.

But the statement pointed out that “no official complaint has been received from Pakistan army or Indian army”.
