Father, son die in roof collapse

SUKKUR, Jan 8: A man and his son were killed and four members of the family injured when the roof of their house in the Station Road area within the remit of the B-Section police station collapsed on Monday night.

Ayub Qazi, owner of the house, and his three-year-old son, Azizullah died on the spot.

Shaheen Begum, wife of Mr Qazi, and three other children, Azra, Sohail and Waseem, sustained injuries in the incident.

Residents of the locality rescued and shifted the injured victims to the Civil Hospital Sukkur where they were admitted for treatment.

According to the neighbours, the house was in a poor condition.

Mr Qazi was stated to be a member of the Sukkur Motor Works Association (SMWA) and lived in the house, next to Munawwar mosque, for some time.

SWMA officer-bearers included Taj Muhammad Shaikh, Syed Nisar Ali Shah, Shafique Arain, Shafiq Bhatti, Shabbir Boodi, Asghar Bhatti and condoled the death of Mr Qazi and his son.

Woman shot dead

A woman was shot dead in her house in the Ghotki city area on Tuesday.

Unknown gunmen barged into the house of Altaf Hussain Shaikh in Irrigation Colony within the remit of the Ghotki police station and opened indiscriminate fire killing 25-year-old Sajida, wife of Altaf Shaikh, on the spot. The assailants fled the scene immediately after committing the murder.

Ghotki police rushed to the scene and shifted the victim’s body to Civil Hospital Ghotki for medico-legal formalities before handing it over to the heirs.

Police suspected an old enmity as a motive behind the attack. No case was registered till Tuesday night.

Jirga settles dispute

A jirga held to settle a dispute in Adam Gopang village within the remit of the Dadloi police station near Pannu Akil imposed a fine of Rs400,000 on the man found guilty.

Waseem Gopang was found guilty of maintaining illicit relations with a married woman of the village.

The jirga chaired jointly by Ashraf Khan Gopang and Syed Mehdi Raza Shah issued a decree against Gopang ordering him to pay a fine of Rs400,000 to the aggrieved party.

Gopang was made to pay the first instalment of Rs100,000 on the spot and promised to pay off the remaining amount in due course of time.

The jirga also expelled Gopang from village for a three-month period. According to sources, the woman has been sent to an undisclosed place for the time being.
