Narcotics seized

TAXILA, Dec 30: The National Highway and motorway police (NH&MP) and Taxila Police in different incidents foiled bids to smuggle narcotics from Peshawar and arrested two outlaws, allegedly members of an organised gang.

In the first incident, NH&MP on the Peshawar to Islamabad Motorway confiscated 5 kilogrammes of hashish.

NH&MP spokesman Umer Shoaib told newsmen that acting on a tip-off, a patrol team headed by patrolling officer Mohammad Shafeeq stopped a car violating traffic rules. During search over 5 kilogrammes of hashish was recovered. Police also arrested the driver. Later the vehicle along with narcotics was handed over to the Anti Narcotics Force officials for further investigation.In the second incident, Taxila police foiled a bid to smuggle five kilogrammes of heroin and arrested a member of a smuggling ring.

Addressing a press conference, Sub divisional Police officer Taxila circle Raja Taifour Akhter said that acting on a tip-off, a police party led by SHO Inspector Mohammad Khan intercepted a car on GT road coming from Peshawar and on search recovered 2 kilogrammes opium and 5 kilogrammes of fine quality heroin from hidden parts of the car and arrested the driver. A case was registered against the accused under the narcotics law.

He said that police also arrested a car thief and recovered a stolen car that the accused was trying to shift to the tribal areas.—Correspondent
