LAHORE: United States Ambassador to Pakistan Richard Olson said on Tuesday that the US welcomed the peace process between Pakistan and Afghanistan, as it would prove to be beneficial for the entire region.

Speaking to the media after attending Pakistan Dairy Industry Conference-2012, the ambassador said the US welcomed the fact that the government of Pakistan invited Afghanistan's High Peace Council to Pakistan and gave them a warm welcome for peace talks.

“We appreciate that the two sides are working together to build confidence,” he added.

The US also welcomed the initiatives taken by Pakistan's government to support the reconciliation process in Afghanistan, he responded to a question.

To another question, Olson said with regard to security and stability in North Waziristan, it is an internal matter and it's up to the Pakistan government as to what course of action it takes to end extremism and maintain peace there.
