Two young men found shot dead in Lyari

KARACHI, Nov 20: Bullet-riddled bodies of two young men were found in Lyari on Tuesday morning, police said.

They said that the bodies were found near the ICI Bridge within the remit of the Baghdadi police station.

The police shifted the bodies to the Civil Hospital Karachi for a post-mortem examination.

The victims were identified as Mohsin Iqbal, 23, and Arif Hasan, 24.

The police said both the young men had left Mohsin’s home in the Jamshed Quarters area on Monday night on a motorcycle (KFC-8585) following which there was no contact with them and they were found shot dead on Tuesday morning.

They said that that about two dozen spent bullet casings of 9mm pistol were found from the crime scene.

They said that it appeared that the two men had been killed on the scene. Mohsin sustained 14 bullet wounds, while Arif was shot 10 times.

Mohsin was a resident of Jamshed Quarters No 2, while Asif was previously living in the area and he had recently moved to Gulshan-i-Iqbal. They were employed at a garments shop in Tariq Road.

The police were trying to collect their cellphone data.

It seemed that the victims had gone to Lyari to meet someone, but got kidnapped, said Lyari SP Sarfaraz Nawaz.

The police said that initial investigations suggested that the two men often visited Lyari, but it was not clear who they used to meet there.

The funeral prayer of Asif was offered at an Imambargah in Abyssinia Lines. Later, he was buried in Wadi-i-Hussain graveyard.

Both the men were single, police said, adding that the killing appeared to be part of the ongoing slaying taking place in the old city area, especially Lyari, where such ‘execution-style killings’ had become rampant.

A case (FIR 284/2012) was registered under Section 302 (premeditated murder) of the penal code against unknown persons on a complaint of Mohsin’s father at the Baghdadi police station.

A few months back, bodies of three young men were found on Mirza Adam Khan Road. The victims were residents of North Karachi, but they had been kidnapped near Kharadar and later their bullet-riddled bodies were found in Lyari.
