Dacoit killed in encounter

OKARA, Oct 22: A dacoit was killed while a constable sustained injuries in an encounter on Okara-Faisalabad highway, some 20kms from here, late on Sunday night.

Reports said that an anti-car lifting squad (ACLS) of Islamabad police was on its way to Okara by a private car when five robbers stopped them near Dhuta bridge. On offering resistance, the robbers opened fire on them which was returned. Consequently, constable Imtiaz Sadiq sustained injuries. In the meantime, a Gogera police team also reached there after receiving a wireless message and started chasing the robbers who disappeared in nearby fields some distance away. After a search police found the body of a dacoit who was later identified as Garja of Mardani village. His four accomplices managed to escape. The injured constable was admitted to the DHQ Hospital.

Gogera police have registered a case.

SHOT DEAD: A man was shot dead over a minor dispute in Tajookay village on Monday.

Reports said that Ghulam Fareed saw Muhammad Boota collecting logs from his enclosure without permission. On raising objection, Boota called his accomplices Javed and Javed who shot Fareed to death on the spot.
