Hundreds held in swoop

LAHORE, Oct 21: The police claim to have arrested 281 proclaimed offenders and 38 members of 14 gangs of robbers during the last 15 days.

They seized looted valuables worth Rs1.25 million and illegal weapons from the arrested gang members, says a handout.

Officials of six operations police divisions also captured 172 drug peddlers and seized from them 10kg heroin, 39kg chars and 803 bottles of liquor.

The police also took 379 court absconders into custody during the crackdown. Several teams raided gambling dens in the city, arresting 172 people and seizing stake money worth Rs838,000.

As many as 146 people were detained during raids at 34 prostitution dens. The police also took action against people having unlicensed weapons and took 165 people into custody.

As many as 611 motorcycles and cars were impounded for multiple violations.

The police detained 149 people and registered 104 cases for violation of ban on a wheelie, aerial firing, illegal use of loudspeakers, price control, marriage and beggary acts.

STOLEN: Thieves took away a car owned by Tahir from Johar Town and stole four motorcycles, one each from Green Town, Ghaziabad, Sabzazar and Harbanspura.

Robbers entered the house of Ghulam Mehmood in Baghbanpura police limits and escaped after looting cash and valuables worth Rs800,000.

In Kahna police limits, robbers barged in the house of Sibtain Abbas and looted cash and valuables worth Rs800,000.

Robbers entered Tahir Khan’s house in Islampura police limits and took away cash and valuables worth Rs700,000.
