Failure to declare assets: EC suspends over 150 lawmakers
ISLAMABAD, Oct 15: The Election Commission suspended on Monday membership of 154 lawmakers, including some federal and provincial ministers, for their failure to meet the legal formality of submitting statements of assets and liabilities, despite having been given another 15 days for the purpose.
The suspended legislators include eight senators, 31 members of the National Assembly, 82 of Punjab, 16 of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 14 of Sindh and three of Balochistan.
The senators include Interior Minister Rehman Malik, Balochistan chief minister’s brother Nawabzada Mir Haji Lashkari Raisani, former privatisation minister Waqar Ahmad Khan and his father Gulzar Ahmad Khan, Ahmad Hasan, Eng Malik Rasheed Ahmad, Haji Saifullah Khan Bangash and Hilal ur Rahman.
Members of the National Assembly include Minister for Kashmir Affairs Mian Manzoor Ahmad Wattoo, Syed Ali Musa Gilani, Syed Abdul Qadir Gilani, former federal minister Ali Aziz Kurd, former chairman of the National Assembly’s standing committee on education Abid Sher Ali and Kashmala Tariq of PML-Likeminded.
The Punjab Assembly tops the list of defaulters, with over 50 per cent of suspended lawmakers. Such members include Syed Ahmad Mujtaba Gilani, Sardar Asif Nakai and Robina Shaheen Wattoo.
The 14 suspended members of the Sindh Assembly include two former ministers Marvi Rashdi and Mukesh Kumar. The other 12 are: Dr Nasrullah, Ahmad Ali Khan Pitafi, Aziz Ahmad Jatoi, Ali Murad Rajar, Syed Ghulam Shah, Qazi Shams Din, Shahid Thaheem, Haji Usman Jalbani, Amanullah Khan Masood, Firdous Hameed, Parveen Mughal, Rukia Khanum Soomro and Riffat Khan.
The defaulting MPAs of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are Finance Minister Mohammad Humayun Khan, Zakat, and Ushr Minister Shamroz Khan, Aurengzeb Khan, Ateef ur Rahman, Mohammad Ali Khan, Ahmad Khan Bahadur, Sardar Ali, Sikandar Irfan, Syed Ahmad Hussain Shah, Wajih-uz-Zaman Khan, Sardar Hussain, Said Rahim, Fazlullah, Saleem Khan, Dr Yasmin Nazli Jaseem and Syeda Saeeda Batool Nasir.
The three members of the Balochistan Assembly include ministers Ainullah Shams and Abdul Khaliq and Samina Raziq.
