Inter-district gang busted

TAXILA, Oct 1:  Taxila police on Monday apprehended a six-member inert gang of robbers wanted in various cases of robbery, street crime and theft.

Speaking at a press conference at Taxila police station, the sub divisional officer (SDO) of Taxila and Wah circle, Raja Taifour Akhtar, said acting on a tip-off, a police party, led by Inspector Malik Mohammad Khan, had raided a secret hideout and arrested six members of an Afghan gang.

The identified members, Jaffar Khan, Javaid Khan, Shah Wali, Ziaullah, Shahid Khan and Haneef Khan, were wanted in different cases of robbery in Taxila, Rawalpindi, Tarnol and other areas. The police seized five pistols and one revolver from their possession.

The SDO said the accused stole transformers from various housing societies in Taxila and Tarnol, and sold them to scrap dealers in Lahore and Rawalpindi. They were also involved in looting people at gunpoint. He added the gang operated from the slum areas of Rawalpindi, and went underground after carrying out the crime.— Correspondent
