Motorcyclists kill rickshaw driver

LAHORE, Sept 27: A 25-year-old rickshaw driver was thrashed and killed by two motorcyclists over a petty issue near the Campus Bridge on Canal Road on Thursday.

Quoting witnesses, Muslim Town Station House Officer Hammad Akhtar said Nadeem of Pindi Stop Kot Lakhpat was initially thrashed by Sarfraz and Muhammad Fateh after the rickshaw hit their bike slightly.

The suspects, who were taken into custody by the police, thrashed Nadeem, lifted him and banged him on the ground. Nadeem, a father of two, suffered a fatal head injury and was pronounced dead at hospital.

The SHO said the suspects had been booked in a murder case.

ACCIDENT: A labourer was hit and killed by a car on GT Road near Manga Mandi on Thursday.

Manga police said Anwar of Bhai Phero was crossing the road at the time of the incident.

ARRESTED: Sadar division police claim to have arrested four proclaimed offenders involved in murders, dacoities and robberies.

Rafique, Jahangir alias Jangu, Imran Noor and Riaz Husain were taken into custody in separate raids.

NARCOTICS SEIZED: Muslim Town police claim to have arrested drug-peddler Abur Rehman Khan and seized 1.2 kilo fine quality hashish from his possession.

TRANSFERRED: Inspector General of Punjab Police Habibur Rehman has transferred Punjab Elite Force Deputy Director Rai Babar Saeed and posted him Punjab Special Branch SSP against an existing vacancy.

A notification in this regard was issued on Thursday.

Meanwhile, Chuhng Police Training College SSP/ Commandant Muhammad Faisal Rana relinquished the charge on Thursday and his successor, SSP Suleman Sultan Rana, assumed the charge.

Mr Rana is proceeding to the UK to attend MSc Countering Organised Crime and Terrorism course at the London School of Economics, commencing from Oct 3.

Robberies: Robbers plundered cash and valuables worth Rs2.5million in three hits in the city on Thursday.

Four robbers barged into the house of Qamaruz Zaman in Badami Bagh police limits, held family members at gunpoint and took away cash and valuables worth one million rupees.

Some robbers stormed into the house of Dr Usman in Shadman police limits and escaped after looting cash and valuables worth Rs800,000.

Some robbers burst into the house of Akhtar in Nanwakot police limits and looted cash and valuables worth Rs700,000.
