Jamali pledges to serve people

ISLAMABAD, Dec 29: Prime Minister Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali has said that the service to the people was the motto of his government.

He was speaking at the parliamentary party meeting of the PML-Q and its allies here at the Prime Minister house on Sunday evening.

He called upon the parliamentarians to remain committed to the national cause and work devotedly for the country.

Prime Minister Jamali said, difficult phases do come in the history of nations, but we are confident that we shall soon be able to overcome these difficulties.

The people, he said, have given us the mandate to serve them for five years, and we will ‘Inshallah’ complete our tenure.

He said continuity and stability of democracy was vital for the country. “It is in our long-term interest that we endeavour to strengthen and uphold the democratic norms and traditions,” he said.

Mr Jamali said, we have made a good beginning and “a well begun is half done,” he said.

Referring to the grievances by the US-based Pakistanis as pointed out by some of the parliamentarians, he said, Foreign Minister Khurshid Mehmood Kasuri had already taken up the issue with the US ambassador to Pakistan and apprised her of our “concerns”.

The PM said that he would attend at least one session of the prliamentary prty every month so as to apprise himself of the problems being faced by them.

He said the parliamentarians would be given Rs5,000,000 to undertake development schemes in their respective areas in the next six months.

He said the parliamentarians should submit schemes regarding construction of farm-to-market roads, rehabilitation of rural roads, water conservation projects including small dams, pavement of drains, maintenance and rehabilitation of educational institutions, basic health units and rural health centres, sewerage and water supply schemes etc.—APP
