Custodial death case: Two policemen sent to jail

KARACHI, Sept 17: A judicial magistrate sent on Monday two policemen to jail on judicial remand in a case pertaining to the custodial death of a robbery suspect.

The teenage suspect, Tayyab, picked up by police along with his brother in a robbery case in Kausar Niazi Colony, North Nazimabad was allegedly tortured to death on Sept 6 at the Hyderi police station.

A case (FIR No 462/12) was lodged against the police constables, Sikandar Ali Channa and Balil Ahmed, under Section 302 (premeditated murder) and 34 (common intention) of the Pakistan Penal Code.

On Monday, the investigation officer produced them in court after the expiry of their physical remand.

The judicial magistrate (west), Asif Ahmed, sent them to jail on judicial remand till Sept 22 and directed the IO to submit a charge-sheet against them on the next hearing.

Fishermen remanded

Eleven Indian fishermen on Monday were remanded to jail custody for illegally fishing in Pakistani waters.

The Maritime Security Agency had detained the fishermen along with their fishing boats after finding them fishing inside the Exclusive Economic Zone of Pakistan and handed them over to police for legal action.

On Monday, the police brought the fishermen before the judicial magistrate (west) and the court sent them to jail on a 14-day judicial remand with direction to police to file a charge-sheet against them.

A case (FIR No 230/2012) was registered against them under Sections 3/4 of the Foreigners Act and 3/9 of the Fisheries Act at the Docks police station.
