Kohat region receives snowfall

KOHAT, Dec 26: The upper part of Orakzai Agency received more than one feet snow while Parachinar in Kurram Agency witnessed light snowfall, making weather extremely chilly in the adjoining areas of Hangu, Kohat, Darra Adam Khel and Thall on Tuesday.

The high altitude area astride the border had been receiving snow fall for the last one week.

In Kurram Agency, according to the Met office, heavy snowfall was expected in the next 12 hours. Teri Mengal and the Koh-i-Sufaid on the Pakistan-Afghan border is already covered with snow.

In Orakzai Agency, incessant rains were also continuing since the last fortnight.

Kohat, Hangu and Thall also received intermittent showers during the last 36 hours, bringing a sigh of relief to farmers and cattle owners, who were facing shortage of fodder.

Roads Blocked: The hilly areas of Mingora also received heavy snowfall that blocked the roads leading to all the upper parts of Swat and Shangla districts, adds our correspondent from Mingora.  

All vehicular traffic from Mingora to Kalam, Behrain, Alpuri, Besham, Puran, Chakesar, Karora, Shahpur and many other areas have been suspended.

In the aftermath of rains and snowfall, a cold wave enveloped the entire Swat valley, creating numerous problems for the locals.

It was reported on Thursday that attendance in the government offices and schools remained very thin during these days. The power supply also frequently disrupted during the last 48 hours.
