Cop killed in clash with outlaws

TAXILA, Aug 13: A policeman was killed and another was injured during a bloody clash with ‘outlaws’ in Nawababad locality in limits of Wah Saddar police station on early hours of Monday.

Police sources claimed that a police team was on routine patrol in the locality, notorious for being as a hub of drugs and prostitution, when they confronted with a four-member gang of outlaws who opened indiscriminate fire at police with sophisticated weapons. Resultantly, Constable Niaz Ahmed died on the spot while another identified as Mohammad Sharif got critically injured.

The injured was taken to the POF Hospital Wah Cantt where his condition was stated to be critical.

The outlaws managed to flee from the scene successfully on foot taking advantage of the narrow streets and loadshedding in the area.

It has also been learnt that the accused took away official rife of the slain cop with them. After getting information, police high ups including City Police Officer Rawalpindi Azhar Ahmed Khokar rushed to the spot and started combing the area in search of outlaws but to no avail.

Police also picked many people on suspicion during search operation launched by police with assistance of elite force contingents. Later, the body of slain police cop after autopsy at DHQ hospital was brought at his ancestral graveyard where his funeral was offered which was attended by Regional Police Officer Capt (retired) Mohammad Zubair,   CPO Rawalpindi, DSP Taxila circle Raja Taifoor Akhtar and a large number of police officials. — Correspondent
