LAHORE, Dec 21: A competitive card of six events featuring the Lalian Plate, a term race for two-year-old halfbreds highlights the 12th Lahore Winter Meeting to be held at the Racecourse Sunday.

Three important events, the Christmas Cup for three-year-old thoroughbred colts and fillies, the Makran Plate, a class IV race and the Lodhran Plate, a class V handicap race have been declared void due to paucity of runners.

In the Lalian Plate, a term race for two-year-old halfbred colts and fillies, maidens at the time of the start and to be contested over the sprinting distance of 1000 metres, three colts come into reckoning. They are: Super Star, Tripple M and Royal Gunner.

By virtue of his performance in his previous outing Super Star, a progeny of Cisco Well out-of-Madhubala has an edge over others. He finished a good second behind Canwara on October 27 last. He should run well again and pick up the spoils.

This will be the fourth race of the afternoon in which a dozen colts and fillies are taking part barring last-minute withdrawals.

An event in which whips are not allowed to be carried by the riders, the term race invites greater interest of the race-goers who loves the sport rather than betting on.

The outcome is normally unpredictable in such races.

The supporting and sixth event, the Muzaffar Abad Plate, a class VII top division handicap race, has ten acceptors, if there are no last-minute withdrawals.

In this race Millennium Count, Shannel and Lucky Shot attract attention. Millennium Count is well-placed in the handicap while Shannel is in a good form and will be going to make it two in-a-row.

Lucky Shot is a well-bred colt, though he has not shown his peak form yet.

The winner should be from the three, if form and handicap are any yardstick to judge capabilities of the runners.

The first race will be held at 12.30 pm.
