ISLAMABAD, Aug 1: After local television channels reported that the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) with the help of Interpol had arrested run-away murder accused Roohullah in Dubai, the capital police have asked Interpol for information about the man, Dawn learnt on Wednesday.

They have approached FIA for the same as the channels had cited the agency as their source of news about Roohullah’s arrest.

The episode has become an enigma as Islamabad police believe Roohullah, who escaped in the early hours of Sunday, never left the country.

“They may have arrested a namesake who boarded a flight to Dubai at Islamabad airport that took off at 3:34am Sunday,” a senior police officer said.

“Yes, the CCTV camera footage at Islamabad airport shows the runaway Roohullah entering the airport at 3:18am but he is not seen anywhere after that.

It is not possible for him to go through all the formalities to board a plane that would have already been taxiing for take off,” he added.

Islamabad police say Roohullah who checked in for the Dubai flight at 1:40am Sunday is son of Jannat Gul and is in the business of stone-crushing in Peshawar, while Roohullah, wanted by them, is the son of Mohammad Ilyas and is being tried for the murder of former Advocate General of Peshawar High Court Mohammad Sardar Khan, who escaped from his hospital bed between 2:30 and 3am on Sunday.
