Man shot dead in Landhi

KARACHI, July 21: The young owner of a shop was shot dead in Landhi in the early hours of Saturday, police said.

They said armed men on a motorbike intercepted 28-year-old Muhammad Saleem in Landhi 36-B near Zaman Mor when he was returning home after pulling down shutters of his general store.

“The victim was also on a motorbike,” said an official at the Landhi police station. “The attackers fired multiple shots that hit him in the chest and face and he died on the spot. We don’t know whether it was an attempt of armed mugging.”

The body was later shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for medico-legal formalities, he said, adding that the victim’s family said he had no enmity with any individual or group. He was not associated with any political or religious group.

“We have lodged an FIR (501/2012) under Sections 302 (premeditated murder) and 34 (common intention) of the Pakistan Penal Code against unknown persons on a complaint of the victim’s elder brother,” added the official.
