Third suicide case in three days

RAWALPINDI, July 3: A fruit vendor, who immolated himself publicly at Liaquat Bagh on Monday night, died at the burn ward of Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (Pims) on Tuesday while a man took his life by shooting himself in Dhoke Ratta the same day.

Domestic issues were the cause behind both incidents, police said.

The fruit vendor, Mohammad Ishfaq Butt, 43, received 100 per cent burns due to financial difficulties.

Mr Butt doused himself with gasoline and later showed a match stick.

He had some words with people who rushed to his rescue on seeing him engulfed in flames.

He was quoted as saying: “I have done it due to domestic issues.”

A diary, a pair of shoes, burnt clothes and national identity card were recovered from him.

Meanwhile, Malik Usman, 24, killed himself by shooting with a pistol.

The victim, who was the only son of his parents, was alone at home while his father had gone to a doctor with his sister.

His mother had gone to her parents’ house, when he killed himself.

Police said Usman had been in distress since his mother left her house and went to her parents’ house after developing differences with her husband.
