Man ‘poisons’ wife to death

CHAKWAL, June 11: A man allegedly poisoned his wife to death after torturing her, sources told Dawn on Monday.

G.H., a resident of Khairpur village, was married to S.P. 20 years ago. After some years, their relation soured and domestic quarrels became a routine.

He used to beat his wife and on Sunday evening, a quarrel took place between them. G.H. started beating his wife with a club as a result of which she received serious head injury and fell down after which the accused poisoned her.

When the neighbours came to know about the incident, they informed the victim’s brother who rushed to the scene.

“When I reached there, my sister was lying unconscious. We rushed her to the District Headquarters (DHQ) hospital where the doctors pronounced her dead,” the brother of the deceased, told Dawn and alleged his sister did not die of the head injury but was poisoned by the accused.

He further told that the accused disappeared from the village after committing the crime.—A Correspondent

Two die in separate incidents

ISLAMABAD, June 11: A man was murdered and another lost his life in a road accident here on Monday, police said.

Shahmasur Rehman, 22, an Afghan national, was shot dead by a father of a girl during a physical fight.

Later, the accused, a native of Mardan, surrendered to the Tarnol police and said that he was not a criminal and that he killed Shams for teasing his daughter.

The family of the victim has lodged a complaint with the police.

In another incident a motorcyclist was killed after he was hit by a speeding vehicle in Tarnol.

Khurram Shahzad suffered multiple injuries when a dumper hit him at G.T Road. The dumper driver managed to escape leaving behind his vehicle.

Later, the injured was shifted to hospital where he was pronounced dead. The police impounded the dumper for further legal action. —Staff Reporter
