MQM man gunned down in Baldia

KARACHI, June 7: An activist of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement was killed and his associate wounded when gunmen on a motorcycle opened fire on them in a Baldia Town locality on Thursday, police said.

They said that the killing occurred at Tabba Chowk where 23-year-old Kamran Saleem and Mohammad Iqbal were sitting near the traffic intersection.

Both men suffered multiple gunshot wounds. They were taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, where Kamran was pronounced dead on arrival while Iqbal was admitted for treatment.

Iqbal was said to be in critical condition, the police said quoting the hospital officials.

A duty officer at the Saeedabad police station said that both men were members of ‘unit 113’ of the MQM organisational structure.

Tension gripped different parts of Baldia Town following the killing.

Hand grenades found

The Motorway Police seized two hand grenades at the Gauharabad section of the Lyari Expressway on Thursday.

Police said a patrolling party of the Motorway Police found two hand grenades by the roadside on Lyari Expressway near Hassan Square.

The PIB police said that the grenades were defused by personnel of the bomb disposal squad, adding that the grenades were of Russian make.
