ASWJ activist gunned down

KARACHI, June 7: A worker of the Ahl-i-Sunnat Wal Jamaat, believed to be a reincarnation of the banned Sipah-i-Sahaba Pakistan, was shot dead and two passers-by were wounded near Zeenat Square in Liaquatabad on Thursday.

Police said Shoaib Ahmed, 45, a resident of Zeenat Square in F.C. Area of Liaquatabad, was standing at a milk shop in front of Zeenat Square, where two suspects on a motorcycle fired at him.

Police said two passers-by, Shahab and Zeeshah, were also wounded in the firing.

Shoaib suffered four gunshot wounds and died before he could be taken to hospital.

The wounded men and the victim’s body were taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.

Police said the victim ran a denting-painting shop in Liaquatabad and was the father of six. He had gone out to buy some groceries.

ASWJ spokesman Maulana Taj Hanfi said the victim was an active worker of the organisation in Liaquatabad. He condemned Shoaib’s murder and demanded the immediate arrest of killers.

‘Gambler’ killed

A man was shot dead and another man was injured near German School in Orangi Town on Thursday.

The victim, identified as Abu Bashar, 34, was a resident of Faisal Chowk, Sector 14, Orangi Town. He was riding a motorcycle with a friend, Feroze, when gunmen targeted them.
