Man drowns in Rawal Dam

ISLAMABAD, May 31: A 24-year-old youth’s body was recovered from Rawal Dam on Thursday.

According to sources, police found the shirt of a person near Kinara Restaurant and recovered a card from it. Through this, they came to know that the shirt belonged to Mohammad Wasim, a resident of Rehmatabad Rawalpindi.

After a while police recovered the body from the dam and shifted it to hospital for autopsy.—A Reporter

TAXILA, May 31: A truck conductor was killed in a road accident on GT Road in the limits of Taxila police station on Thursday.

Sardar Ali in a complaint Taxila police said Shahid Imran was changing tyre on GT road when another truck coming from the opposite direction hit him killing him on the spot. — Correspondent

Body found

CHAKWAL, May 31: The body of a man was found lying in the jungle near Kallar Kahar, police sources said on Thursday.

According to police the man was in his mid forties and was killed a weak ago. The body could not be identified yet. — Correspondent

Five smugglers arrested

ATTOCK, May 31: The district police on Thursday seized ammunition and hashish being smuggled from Khyber-Paktunkhwa (KP) to Punjab and also arrested five outlaws including two women.

The district police headquarters said that on a tip-off, the police team led by SHO city police station Sub-Inspector Mazhar Shah intercepted a car (LEA-4301) and after its search, recovered a rifle, six magazines of MP-5 rifle and 11,500 bullets of 30 and 44 bore pistols and a 222 rifle. Muhammad Sharafat, the resident of Sheikhupura district and Asfandyar, the resident of Swabi district were arrested. — Correspondent

Relief for Wasa pensioners

RAWALPINDI, May 31: Retired employees of Water and Sanitation Agency (Wasa) on Thursday finally got their pension after a five-year-long wait as two government agencies did not own them when they completed their services.

When the Wasa was established in 1998, some 40 employees from Town Municipal Administration (TMA) Rawal Town were transferred to it. But when they got retired in 2007, the two departments developed dispute over payment of pension to them.— Our Reporter

Court recovers injured UTP

ATTOCK, May 31: On the orders of district and sessions judge, police on Thursday recovered a seriously injured undertrial prisoner (UTP) from the district jail, who had been manhandled allegedly by jail officials and was being harassed to keep his lips tight over the incident, it has been learnt. — Correspondent
