Wapda claim national karate title

LAHORE, May 29: Wapda with nine gold and one silver medals totalled 205 points to win the 21st National Karate Championship at the Qayyum Stadium in Peshawar the other day.

Army seized the second spot with one gold, four silver and three bronze medals, which gave them a total of 90 points. Sindh remained third with 80 points, securing two silver and six bronze medals.

Teams from Police, Railways, Punjab, Sindh, Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Fata also featured in the event.

Saadi Abbas of Wapda, who won gold medal in the Asian Games, earned two gold medals for his department, one each in the 67kg category and team kumite.

South Asian gold medallists Mohammad Ramzan, Baz Mohammad and Mohammad Kashif of Wapda also won two gold medals, each in different weight categories.—Sports Reporter
