Order reserved on bail plea of murder suspect

KARACHI, May 28: A sessions court reserved on Monday its order on a bail application of a suspect in a case pertaining to the murder of a senior journalist till May 30.

Murtaza Razvi, head of Dawn’s magazines, was found dead in an art studio within the remit of the Darakhshan police station on April 19.

Seeking bail, Mohammad Waqas contended that police had failed to collect any solid evidence to connect him with the alleged crime.

But public prosecutor Kaleemullah argued that the suspect was last seen with the deceased by a witness. He added that there was enough evidence to link him with the crime.

After hearing both sides, additional district and sessions judge (south) Abdul Razzaq reserved the order on bail for pronouncement till Wednesday.

The police had detained the suspect on April 23 in Gizri and said that after committing the murder, the suspect with his accomplice took away cellphone and other valuables of the victim. Nagar Lal was cited as absconding accused in an interim charge-sheet.
