Robbers plunder gold worth Rs16m

LAHORE, May 23: Robbers looted gold worth Rs16 million from a trader near Azadi Chowk in the city on Wednesday.

Tibbi City police said Zafar Iqbal of Shadbagh was going to Azad Kashmir by a car to sell 3.1 kilo gold when four armed men, riding two motorcycles, approached him near Azadi Chowk and snatched his bag containing gold.

Police started investigation after registering a case.

Two gun-toting men snatched cash and valuables from Javaid on Outfall Road near Corporation Chowk. They also shot at and injured Javaid when he put up resistance.

A Rescue 1122 ambulance shifted the injured to Munshi Hospital.

FIRE: A fire broke out in an auto workshop near Nain Sukh Chowk on Wednesday, burning down valuables worth Rs150,000.

Rescue 1122 said the blaze erupted in the workshop of Nawaz apparently due to a short circuit.

Another fire broke out in the house of Sheikh Zafarullah near Kamahranwali Kothi, Mozang Adda, gutting valuables worth Rs70,000.

The short circuit was thought to be the cause of fire.
