MANSEHRA, May 7: A man and his niece were killed by rivals over a marriage dispute in Darband area on Monday.

According to local police, Lal Zaman died after Mohammad Hussain and his accomplices fired gunshots at him when he was on the way to mosque for offering prayers.

Mr Zaman’s family members were also fired at after they showed up hearing gunshots. The shooting killed Mr Zaman’s niece Arshad Bibi and critically injured her son, Mohammad Dildarm, who was later shifted to King Abdullah Teaching Hospital in Mansehra.

Police said Ali Asghar, son of Mohammad Hussain, was engaged with Falak Naz but the latter got married with Mohammad Ansar, son of Mr Zaman, of free own will to the anger of her fiancé’s father, who attacked Mr Zaman for disgracing his family.Police registered the case and conducted raids in the area to arrest the fleeing killer and his accomplices.

Also in the day, a man stabbed his husband to death in Shinkiary for honour before surrendering to police.

Police said Jehanzeb Khan allegedly stabbed his wife, Nimrah Bano, in the belly with a dagger after seeing her talk to her ‘paramour’, Saddam Shah, over the mobile.

They quoted the alleged killer as saying his repeated warnings against speaking to her ‘paramour’ fell on deaf ears and therefore, he killed her.

The woman was mother of a two-year-old boy and had got married with the accused four years ago.

Shinkiary police registered an FIR against the killer and his accomplices and began investigation.

Meanwhile, Mansehra police on Monday arrested 12 people, including jirga members and a station house officer, over a forced marriage after district and sessions judge Rafique Hussain Shah cancelled their pre-arrest bails and ordered their arrest.

On April 24, Sofia Bibi, 15, lodged an FIR with police, saying his marriage was solemnised against her will with Mohammad Naveed in Lassain Nawab after being declared perverted by a local jirga. In the FIR, 14 people, including station house officer of Nassain Nawab police station Shad Mohammad Khan, were named.
