Impersonators strike at two places

ISLAMABAD, May 4: Impersonators struck at two places in the city, but one of them was overpowered and handed over to the police.

Two persons disguised as policemen intercepted a truck at Park Road in Shahdzad Town on the pretext of checking it. They werewearing police caps and holding wireless sets with a revolving light installed on their vehicle.

During checking of the truck, the accused snatched Rs58,000 from its occupants and escaped.

In another incident, a man intercepted Mohammad Altaf at G-8/3 and said he was from the Crime Investigation Department and wanted his body search. During the search, he snatched a mobile phone worth Rs7,000. However, the victim overpowered the impersonator and sought help from the passersby. Later, the Margalla police reached the spot and took the impersonator into custody.

Meanwhile, the police arrested 13 persons from different areas and recovered stolen vehicles, mobile sets, narcotics, liquor and weapons from them.

A spokesman for the police said the Tarnol police arrested a drug peddler after recovery of over one kg hashish from his possession. The Tarnol and Margalla police also recovered one stolen car each from an alleged auto thief.

The Aabpara, Bhara Kahu, Shahzad Town and Industrial Area police nabbed five alleged thieves and recovered stolen items worth thousands of rupees.

The Sabzi Mandi, Sihala and Bani Gala police separately recovered three 30-bore pistols and a 12-bore gun along with 25 cartridges from four persons.

The Ramna police apprehended a bootlegger and recovered two bottles of wine from him.
