Two cellphone snatchers convicted

KARACHI, April 26: Two cellphone snatchers were convicted and sentenced to three-year terms in separate cases on Thursday.

The judicial magistrate South, Mumtaz Solangi, convicted Mohammed Imran for robbing passersby on Nov 14, 2011 at gunpoint in the remit of the Saddar police station.

The man was handed over to the police by the people who overpowered him, while his accomplice managed to flee the scene amid firing.

The police recovered three snatched cellular phones and a TT pistol from the suspect upon his arrest. He was booked by the police for robbery and possession of illegal weapon. The judge sentenced him to a three-year term for committing robbery and a one-year term for possessing an illegal pistol.

Another mobile phone snatcher was given an identical sentence by the judicial magistrate South, Hatim Solongi.

Convict Sajid Hussain was arrested red-handed by the Defence police when he was about to flee after robbing Mohammed Salim, the complainant, of his cellphone and cash on July29, 2011.

The police seized the looted property and an unlicensed pistol and booked him for robbery and possession of illegal weapon.
