Security guard, four others booked in bank heist case

KARACHI, April 24: Police have registered a case against the security guard of a private company and his four accomplices for robbing a private bank branch located on Sharea Faisal within the jurisdiction of the Tipu Sultan police station on Monday night.

The case (FIR 141/2012) was registered against security guard Najaf Shah and four others on a complaint of bank manager Ameer Ali.

The investigation of the bank heist was transferred to the Special Investigation Unit.

The police said that they also obtained the footage of close-circuit television cameras installed at the bank’s premises.

They said that the CCTV footage suggested that the security guard was also involved in the robbery as he opened the gate for the robbers and helped them in the robbery. He later escaped along with them.

They said that the bank’s staff was also present in the bank at the time of the robbery.

They said that according to the bank staffers the robbers took away Rs9.5 million.

The security guard in question originally hailed from Parachinar and joined the private security company on February 2, 2012. He was posted to the bank on March 22.
