ST activist shot dead

KARACHI, April 22: Targeted attacks continuing for several days in Orangi Town claimed the life of a Sunni Tehrik (ST) activist on Sunday.

Police said that the attack took place in Yaqoobabad within the remit of the Pakistan Bazaar police station where Shamshad Qadri, 30, was targeted by unknown persons riding a motorcycle.

Orangi Town SDPO Tariq Malick said that the man was present near his house in Sector 11½ when three persons riding a motorcycle came and opened fire at him. Qadri suffered multiple wounds and was rushed to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, where he died during treatment, he said, adding that the victim’s brother was stated to be an activist of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM). The victim worked in an embroidery shop in Orangi Town, he said.

Meanwhile, a spokesman for the Sunni Tehrik condemned the ‘targeted killing’ and urged the authorities to ensure the arrest of culprits.

Tension gripped several areas of Orangi Town including Yaqoobabad, Gulshan-i-Zia, Toori Bangash, Raees Amrohi Colony and its surrounding areas soon after the incident.

All shops, markets and commercial lanes were closed when the affected areas reverberated by gunfire sound in the air.
