Two thieves arrested

ATTOCK, April 20: Two persons were arrested for stealing iron clamps and rivets from the railway track.

Police said Railway officials lodged a complaint with Fatehjang police station that rail track checking staff held two persons for stealing the gadgets from the railway track on Fatehjang-Kohat section.

The alleged thieves were identified as Mohammad Bilal and Mohammad Iqbal. — Correspondent

Cultural week concludes

ISLAMABAD, April 20: Annual cultural week of the International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) concluded on Friday.

Ambassador of Bangladesh Suhrab Hussain, High Commissioner of Kenya Mishi Mashika, wife of the Ambassador of Saudi Arabia, IIUI Rector Prof Fateh Mohammad Malik and a large number of students attended the ceremony.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Suhrab said students with their achievements in curricular and co-curricular activities could act as the ambassadors of global peace and harmony. He said Pakistan and Bangladesh should exchange students to expand bilateral relations and develop understanding about each other.

Wife of the Saudi Arabia’s ambassador said international cultural activities played an important role in bringing  Muslims of different countries closer. — A Reporter

SHOs reshuffled

ATTOCK, April 20:  Many station house officers (SHOs) were reshuffled by district police officer (DPO).

The district police headquarters said on Friday that DPO Mohammad Hilal Khan transferred SHO city police station Inspector Israr Satti and appointed him as SHO Hazro police station in place of Inspector Mohammad Khan, who was appointed as SHO Basal police station. Similarly, Inspector Ahsan Elahi has been appointed SHO city police station.

Similarly, Inspector Syed Kazim Naqvi has been appointed SHO Hassanabdal city police station in place of Inspector Aurangzaib, who has been given the charge of Hassanabdal Saddar police station.

SHO Basal Inspector Mohammad Walayat and SHO Pindigheb police station Inspector Shaukat Mehmood have been transferred and instructed to report to district police lines. — Correspondent

Policemen punished

RAWALPINDI, April 20: Giving some relief to the family of rape victim, the police department on Friday transferred SP Rawal Town Malik Matloob and suspended DSP City Circle Taimoor Khan, besides booking former SHO Ratta Amral and investigating officer.

They used delaying tactics in registering a rape case that was reported to the police last month.

Taking notice of the negligence, the Supreme Court ordered registration of a case against the two police officials and removal of the SP and suspension of DSP.

SP Chaudhry Mohammad Hanif presently posted at Special Branch Rawalpindi has been directed to assume  charge of SP Rawal Town. Outgoing SP Rawal Town Malik Matloob has been directed to report to the Central Police Office, Lahore. The daughter of a private security guard was kidnapped by three persons from her house on March 21.

The girl claimed that she was subjected to rape by three persons for more than two hours and later freed.

When her father went to the Ratta Amral police to register a case against the culprits they ignored him.

However, after they received chemical examiner’s report, a rape case was registered against the culprits and two of them were arrested. — Staff Reporter

Man held for jubilation fire

RAWALPINDI, April 20: Police booked a man for firing in jubilation during a marriage ceremony and took his weapon into custody.

According to details, Waris Khan police arrested Mohammad Irfan for firing in the air and recovered a 30-bore pistol from his possession.

The area residents are worried about the increasing number of jubilation firing cases in which precious lives have been lost besides creating panic among the residents. — APP
