Another prisoner on the run arrested

KARAK, April 16: Another prisoner, who escaped from Bannu jail, was arrested by police here on Monday when he was trying to leave the district. 

Police also claimed to have arrested 10 proclaimed offenders during a search operation in different areas of the district.

Police said that Gul Afzal, a resident of Mashokhel area of Peshawar, who was serving life term in Bannu jail, was arrested by Khuram police after he escaped from the jail on Sunday morning.

“He was got off from a vehicle on suspicion and during interrogations he confessed that he had escaped from the jail,” police officials said. Mr Gul was sentenced to life imprisoned in a drug smuggling case.

He told police that he had been arrested in 2006 at Peshawar airport when he was trying to smuggle a huge quantity of drugs abroad.

It is pertinent to mention here that seven escaped prisoners were arrested in the district on Sunday.

Meanwhile, police arrested 10 proclaimed offenders in different parts of the district. Officials said that Aamir Mohammad, a resident of Malakand presently living at Scheme Chowk in Peshawar, was arrested in Terri. He was also wanted by Punjab police.

They said that Mohammad Sharif, Ayub, Mardan alias Ramzan, Nazir Gul, Waseem Sajjad, Muzafar Gul, Umer Nawaz, Kaleemullah, Nazran and Payao Rehman were arrested by personnel of Karak police station.

TERMINATED: The executive district officer terminated 10 primary schoolteachers, both male and female, for absenteeism here on Monday.

Sources said that EDO Haziqur Rehman Khattak had served notices on 10 primary schoolteachers for their habitual absenteeism and warned them time and again to perform duty regularly. However, the teachers gave no importance to the notices, they said.

After fulfilling all formalities, the EDO terminated the teachers under Civil Servant Rules 1973. The terminated teachers include Sajjad Umer, Mujahidullah, Hafizur Rehman, Sohail Ahmad, Tahir Iqbal, Jehanzeb Khan, Akhtar Iqbal, Wasif Rehman, Ameer Mohammad and Safina Akhtar.

The sources claimed that most the terminated teachers were either abroad or doing other jobs.
