12 faint from generator’s fumes

MUZAFFARGARH, April 10: Over a dozen people, including students and their family members, fainted after inhaling toxic fumes emitted by an electricity generator during a farewell party at a hotel in Gujrat town, some 20 kilometres away from here on Tuesday.

A local private school had arranged a farewell party for its matriculation students at Crown Hotel and invited pupils and their families to attend the function.

The function was marred by routine loadshedding and the hotel management switched its generator on to produce electricity. The fumes produced by the generator, however, caused respiratory problems for many participants and a dozen of them fainted. They were rushed to a local hospital where they were provided first aid and were subsequently discharged.

School principal Ijaz Hussain held hotel management responsible for making poor arrangements that caused health hazards for the guests.

Mahmoodkot SHO Farooq Afaq said that a case under Section 285 of the PPC had been registered against the hotel administration.

The students and their families protested against substandard arrangements and demanded action against the hotel management.
