KHAR, March 29: Sports help develop the spirit of healthy competition among youth and give them a lesson of tolerance, said Political Agent of Bajaur Agency Islam Zeb on Wednesday.
“By involving young generation in sports, we will ensure a secure future for them and peace and development in Tribal Areas,” the political agent told the concluding ceremony of BajaurPeace Sports Festival here at Agency Headquarters Sports Complex.
Mr Zeb said participation in sports developed cooperation, endurance and physical fitness among youth and taught them discipline, unity and consistency. He asked youth to continue working hard for contributing to national development.
The political agent said the government would provide all-out facilities to youth to promote sports in Bajaur Agency. He later announced cash prizes for outstanding players of the 10-day long event, which ended with a call for peace in Bajaur and other parts of Fata.
He also distributed prizes, certificates and trophies among winners and runners-up.
The final of the cricket tournament was won by Bajaur Greens after a close contest, while Hayat Club remained runner-up. The volleyball championship was won by Lar Kalay Mamund after they defeated Khar Club.
In football final, Young Star defeated Young Eleven and clinched the title, while PA Club clinched the badminton title by beating Bajaur Levies.
The festival was organised by political administration in collaboration with Fata Secretariat and Bajaur Sports Association with an objective to promote sports and healthy activities in the agency.
It began on March 20 and cricket, football, volleyball and badminton matches were part of it. More than 50 teams from the entire agency participated in the event.
A large number of tribal elders, political workers, players and spectators showed up at the festival closing ceremony.
