No ugly girl in Pakistan, says Mrs Kennedy

RAWALPINDI: Herself extremely charming, Mrs Jacqueline Kennedy was all praise for the beauty of Pakistani women. She told correspondents at the President’s House, where she attended the Pakistan Day reception, that she had yet to see an ugly girl in this country.

Jackie, always wearing a broad smile, mingled freely among the invitees, specially the women and to many of them she talked too.

She has particularly won the heart of young girls, who most of the time clustered around her at the lush green lawns covered by multi-coloured canopies and shamianas at the President’s House.

As she arrived with President Ayub at the reception everyone, particularly women, started moving frantically to get closest to her. Jackie praised saris and asked if they were made in Pakistan. When assured that they were, she wanted to know where and who were the weavers.

She was delighted with the fashion show at the Alhamra in Lahore, and commented repeatedly on the wonderful costumes both old and new she saw there. She said she had not seen one ugly girl in Pakistan and had even asked the President if there was one and whether she was hiding herself.

Princess Radziwill, the sister of Mrs Kennedy, was all praise for the warmth of the welcome being given to them in Pakistan. She said that she was enjoying her tour tremendously and was finding everything fascinating.— Agencies
