KARAK, March 18: The residents of Sarki Lawagher, Mamani Lawagher and Shagi Lawagher have complained about non-payment of compensation amount of their lands upon which the Lawagher dam had been constructed, and resolved to start movement for their rights.

The elders, including Maulana Raees Khan, Nazeer Gul, Sarfaraz Khan and Malik Moeenullah, claimed the localities were deprived of all basic facilities.

Talking to Dawn here on Sunday the elders recalled that at the time of the construction of the dam the then law minister Malik Zafar Azam had promised construction of two bridges in the areas but regretted that he could not realise his words during his tenure.

The affected residents maintained that only facility of boat was also ended after its sinking in the dam in which two teenaged boys and a girl drowned. They said the construction of dam had become a source of mental torture for the people of the areas.

The residents complained that the government had given only Rs50 million as compensation to landowners, which was only Rs10,000 per kanal, leaving them high and dry.

The elders said they had also time and against conveyed their grievances to the Minister for Prisons Mian Nisar Gul and MNA Mufti Ajmal but they also failed to fulfill their promises made with the people.

KILLED:Two people were killed in separate incidents in the district. Police said on Sunday in the first incident a young man was killed when he was hit by a speedy passenger coach while crossing road in Totaki area in the jurisdiction of Khurram police station. The coach was moving towards Bannu

In the second incident an old man was hit and critically injured by a speedy motorcycle. He was taken to a nearby health centre where he succumbed to injuries.
