‘PPP not to carry out anti-press legislation’

KARACHI, March 7: The Pakistan People's Party will not carry out any legislation against the fundamental rights of journalists and impose restrictions on the media, said the newly elected senators of the party on Wednesday.

Senators-elect Mudasir Sehar Kamran, Saeed Ghani, Dr Karim Ahmed Khawaja and Mukhtar Ahmad Aajiz Dhamra visited the offices of the Karachi Union of Journalists and Karachi Press Club and expressed their gratitude to the media for welcoming the nominations of simple party workers like themselves for coveted senate seats.

They said that the PPP would not take any decision on press laws without taking journalists on board.

Earlier, KUJ President G.M. Jamali welcomed the senators and highlighted the need for providing health cover and life insurance to media persons.
