IB inspector gunned down in Peshawar

PESHAWAR, March 2: Unidentified assailants gunned down an officer of Intelligence Bureau (IB) and left his son wounded near Abshar Colony on Warsak Road here on Friday, police said.

Officials of Michani police station told Dawn that IB Inspector Bashir Khan was taking his son, Mohammad Umar, to school when the attackers ambushed his car. As a result, the inspector and his son, 12, sustained bullet injuries.

People of the area rushed them to Lady Reading Hospital where doctors pronounced Mr Khan dead while his son was being provided treatment. The assailants escaped on a motorcycle after attacking the car, witnesses said.

According to the FIR registered with Michani police, the injured son of the inspector told police that they had no enmity or dispute with anyone. Mr Khan has been working in the regional headquarters of the IB in Peshawar. He has left behind two sons,three daughters and a widow.

Meanwhile, a gas cylinder exploded in the basement of emergency ward of Lady Reading Hospital. However, no one was injured.

Officials of Khan Razik police station said that the cylinder explosion damaged windowpanes of the adjacent rooms and spread panic among doctors and patients for some time. —Bureau Report
