Search operation: Five foreigners among 44 arrested in city

LAHORE, Feb 29: Faisal Town police took five foreigners and 39 suspected persons into custody during a search operation in Khalid Market and Kothey Pind flats on Wednesday night.

Faisal Town ASP Tariq Aziz told Dawn that police teams searched 600 flats of Kothey Pind and 76 residential flats in 17 plazas of Khalid Market. He said the operation was launched to hunt criminals and narcotics dealers.

‘KILLER’ HELD: Lytton Road police arrested two people for murdering a young girl for honour in New Islamia Park on Wednesday.

Police said Javed strangled his sister Tanzeel Fatima with the help of his father and buried her in a graveyard in Kot Radha Kishan, Kasur district. Someone in the family alerted the police about the incident. Police took the suspects into custody and got their confessions.

According to the Lytton Road SHO, Fatima’s body would be exhumed soon.

ROBBERIES: Traders of Mansoora Bazaar lodged a protest after robbers looted gold ornaments worth Rs600,000 from two jewellery shops in Hanjarwal police precincts on Wednesday.

Three robbers first entered Yaseen Jewellers and looted jewellery. They then entered nearby Abdul Latif Jewellers and snatched jewellery. The suspects also took away rifle of a security guard. A police official said the shops dealt in artificial jewellery and police were checking if the owners kept gold ornaments too.

Three robbers stormed the house of Ashiq in Sattokatla police precincts and took away cash and valuables worth Rs700,000.

Four robbers barged in the house of Haroon in South Cantonment police limits and looted cash and valuables worth Rs500,000.

Some robbers burst into the house of Sajid in Factory Area police limits and looted cash and valuables worth Rs500,000.

Two robbers deprived Manzoor of Rs6,000, a cell phone and motorcycle in Shahdara police limits, while as many robbers robbed Rizwan of Rs5,000, a cell phone and a motorcycle in Johar Town police limits.
