Two men gunned down in Pirabad

KARACHI, Feb 28: Two men, including a worker of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement, were shot dead in separate incidents within the remit of the Pirabad police station, police said on Tuesday.

They said that 26-year-old Noor Hussain was standing with a friend in Kanwari Colony on Manghopir Road late on Monday night when two assailants riding a motorcycle arrived there, fired at him and escaped.

The police said that the victim suffered a bullet wound to the head and died on the spot. The body was shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for medico-legal formalities.

Pirabad SHO Yaseen Gujjar said that the victim was a member of the MQM’s Punjabi-Pakhtun organising committee. He was a resident of Iqbal Nagar in Orangi Town.

Tension gripped the areas close to Kanwari Colony and businesses were shut following the killing.

In the second incident, a man was shot dead at a hairdressing salon late on Monday night, police said.

They said that Ali Raza, 32, was sitting in the salon in Qasba Colony No 1 when assailants entered the shop and fired at him.

The victim died on the spot. The body was shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for a post-mortem examination.

The police said that the victim was a resident of the same area and ran a cattle pen. He had four children.

The victim’s father told the police that his son had no enmity with anyone, but he had taken a loan from someone and due to some financial problems was unable to repay it.

A murder case (FIR 70/2012) was registered against unidentified men on a complaint of the victim’s father, Saleem Khan, at the Pirabad police station.
