Scrap dealer found shot dead in Korangi

KARACHI, Feb 19: The bullet-riddled body of a scrap dealer was found in a Korangi area on Sunday in what seemed to be a result of personal enmity, police said.

The area police said that 42-year-old Furqan Ahmed was found dead with multiple bullet wounds near Bismillah bus stop in Korangi 2½.

They said that the victim was shot twice each in shoulder and the chest. The body was shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for medico-legal formalities where the victim was formally identified.

“The victim was a resident of Liaquat Square in Malir,” said Korangi police station SHO Malik Saleem.“He was a scrap dealer by profession and ran a big business. He had visited Korangi quite frequently over the past few days in connection with the marriage of his niece who lived in this area.”

The police said that the victim’s family ruled out any political association of Furqan, but confirmed that he had some monetary dispute with some people.

“The body has been handed over to the family after medico-legal formalities and we are waiting for the family to turn up for the registration of an FIR. The victim was a father of three,” added the SHO of the Korangi police station.

Road accident

A 35-year-old woman died and her husband sustained serious wounds when a fast moving truck hit the couple’s motorbike near Al Asif Square, police said.

They said the couple was heading towards Gulshan-i-Maymar when the truck hit them in the rear and sped away. The accident left both the riders badly injured.

“They were shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, where the woman, 35-year-old Rahat Naz, died from the wounds,” said an official at the Sohrab Goth police station.
