Woman comes under acid attack

OKARA, Feb 18: A man threw acid on a woman he was allegedly having an affair with sometime ago in Mansoorabad Colony on Saturday, say police officials.

Tasawar had an affair with his neighbour Shahida, a mother of six, and their affair came to an end sometime ago. On Saturday, Tasawar threw acid on Shahida with the help of his two accomplices.

Shahida was injured and taken to the burn unit of DHQ Hospital in a critical condition.

Her brother Zahid got a case registered against Tasawar and his accomplices with A-Division police station under Section 324 of the Pakistan Penal Code and Section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act.

BOOKED: Seven people of a religious school and a waste paper buyer have been booked for the alleged desecration of the Holy Quran.

Waste paper buyer Ashiq Ali, a resident of Adda Bahawaldas near Depalpur, bought waste paper from a religious school, Islami Educational Ideal School, Chah Mahintanwala.

When he opened the bundles of waste paper at his shop at Adda Bahawaldas, he found pages of the Holy Quran among other papers.

Other people also saw the pages of the Holy Quran and got a case registered against school staff Idrees Asri, Muhammad Usman, Muhammad Abbas, Nawaz and their three colleagues as well as Ashiq Ali for the alleged desecration of the Holy Quran.
