Talha eyes two titles in STA tennis

KARACHI, Feb 1: Talented Talha Zubair Surmawala is in contention for double crown after making it to the men’s and juniors’ under-17 singles finals in the 17th Sindh Tennis Association (STA) development series ranking tennis championship at the Union Club on Wednesday.

Talha thrashed Saud Shoaib 6-1, 6-0 to set a date with second seed Hassan Siddiqui in the under-17 final.

Saud, meanwhile, also made his exit in the men’s singles pre-final after conceding the first set 0-6 and trailing 0-1 in the second against second seed Omer Shahid.

Talha had already reached the final by getting the better of Fahim Ramzan the other day. The finals will be played onThursday.

Results:Men’s singles semi-final: Omer Shahid bt Saud Shoaib 6-0, 1-0 (rtd).

Juniors’ under-17 singles:Semi-final: Talha Zubair Surmawala bt Saud Shoaib 6-1, 6-0.

Ladies singles:Semi-finals: Hania Naveed bt Wania Khan 6-1, 6-4; Neha Khan bt Hajra Nadeem 6-2, 7-5.

Boys’ and girls’ under-15 singles:Semi-finals: Marib Malik bt Nazif Ahmed 6-2, 6-1; Ibrahim Iltifat bt Dawar Rehan (walkover).
