Two shot dead in Mardan

MARDAN, Jan 30: A land dispute claimed lives of two relatives in Chumdhery area in the limits of Choora police station on Monday.

Police said two brothers identified as Shahjehan and Adil Zaman developed some differences over a small piece of land, which led to exchange of fire between them. As a result Shahjehan and his nephew Ashfaq Bahadar died on the spot while Shahi Zaman, son of Shahjehan, received multiple bullet injuries.

The police registered FIRs on the reports of both the parties and started efforts to apprehend the culprits.—Correspondent

Minor killed on road

KOHAT, Jan 30: A class one student of a private school was hit and killed by an over-speeding motorcyclist near Bahadar Kot on Monday.

The police said seven-year-old Laiba was struck by motorcyclist as she came out of her school situated on the Rawalpindi road.

She was taken to women and children hospital where she succumbed to injuries. Her body was handed over to the family after postmortem.

The Riaz Khan police station arrested the motorcyclist and registered case against him.—Correspondent

Senate election

KOHAT, Jan 30: MPA Dr Iqbal Din Fana has said he would support the ANP in the senate elections as the party had allocated record funds for his constituency.

Dr Iqbal Fana, who quit the JI after it boycotted the 2008 general elections, said he contested the polls just to remove feeling of deprivation of the people of his constituency and to accomplish their longstanding demands.

He said Chief Minister Ameer Haider Khan Hoti had earmarked record funds for his constituency to remove its backwardness, adding he was bound to extend support to ANP-led government.

He was speaking at the inauguration ceremony of a water supply scheme in Lachi town on Monday. The scheme has been completed at cost Rs140 million.

Dr Fana said the water supply scheme had four tube-wells, and storage tanks with capacities of storing 20,000 to 100,000 gallons of water. — Correspondent

Fake currency seized

PESHAWAR, Jan 30: Police on Monday seized fake currency and documents, automatic machines and arrested the owner of a factory during a raid in limits of west cantonment police station here.

Speaking at a press conference at west cantonment police station the cantonment circle Superintendent of Police Dr Mian Saeed Ahmed said the factory was located at Donga Gali Street. The owner was identified as Mujeeb-ur-Rehman.

He said some other people were also involved in the crime, who would also be arrested soon. He said fake documents were in the name of different universities and colleges.

A case against the accused has been registered at the police station and efforts were underway to arrest the absconding persons, he said.—Bureau Report
