Man held over abduction bid, three flee

KARAK, Jan 25: Local police here the other day arrested a man over a bid to kidnap a cabbie. However, his three accomplices fled deserting the taxi on the way to Peshawar.

Police said four men hired a taxi in Bannu for Peshawar and tried to kidnap driver Imran at gunpoint in Baggan area of Karak district but abandoned him on resistance before taking the taxi away.

The cabbie informed a police patrol about the incident. The patrol alerted Khurram police that arrested one of the outlaws, Razauddin.

However, the others, Hajatullah, Rifaqatullah and Wahid, fled leaving the taxi on the way to Peshawar.

Police said the arrested man had confessed to the kidnapping bid and taxi snatching and said he belonged to Haiderkhel area in Mir Ali town in North Waziristan Agency.

They said Khurram police station had registered a case against the four outlaws and began investigation.

Meanwhile, the local anti-corruption department on Tuesday registered a case against district council secretary Mujahid Khan over misappropriation of the salary of the council's employees.

Meanwhile, a man killed his cousin over a family dispute in Tappi Algadi area of Karak district Monday night.

Police identified the dead as Safdar Raza and said they had registered a murder case against his cousin, Altaf.
